How It Began: Making Vegan Soap

How It Began: Making Vegan Soap

I was always an animal lover:  horse girl, dog girl, cat girl, bugs, toads, you name it, if it was an animal, I loved it. I could never bear to witness an animal in pain or suffering.  I adopted many animals and rescued just as many.  As I grew into a young adult I came to understand that I needed to live my life in alignment with this love and I became a vegan/vegetarian in my early 20s.  Little did I know that there were many products that didn't involve eating that were not considered vegan.  The most surprising was that my cheap bar soap bought at the local grocery store was not only not vegan, it wasn't vegetarian.  I was concerned to learn that most over the counter commercial soaps are made from beef tallow so I sought out other more expensive artisan soaps.  As I began exploring these soaps I realized I could make these myself, add a little artistic flair for fun, and learn a useful practical skill (in case of apocalypse!).  I researched soap making teachers and came across an author/book with a longstanding reputation for teaching the art of making soap:

  Anne Watson.

With Anne's expert advice, I was quickly making my own soaps and handing them out to family and friends.  This business has been many years in the making and I'm excited to finally be able to share my creations and knowledge with the world!  I hope you enjoy your time here and if you order some soap, enjoy that too!!

Take Care, Ms. B
